A native of Bordeaux's Entre-Deux-Mers region, Fabrice Bandiera comes from a family of winegrowers in Castelvieil. Fabrice discovered his vocation at a very young age. His studies were perfectly adapted to his chosen field, which he went into with great enthusiasm, soon after receiving his diplomas. After working at the family property, he joined the Cazes and Axa Millésimes estates in 1992, and was involved in all aspects of vineyard and cellar work. This experience at such prestigious estates as Lynch-Bages and Pichon Baron instilled in him the virtues of rigour and professionalism. He joined the team at Château des Laurets in 1996 as a cellar worker before being promoted to Technical Director in 2002. Fabrice Bandiera has helped the Edmond de Rothschild family's estate wines go from strength to strength for over 20 years, upholding their traditional expertise.
About the Winery
The vineyards surrounding the Château and the estate’s slope receive optimal southern exposure. The clay-limestone terroir is naturally ideal for growing Merlot, the reigning grape of Saint-Émilion, for this soil profile enables the variety to achieve its full power and signature qualities. Black grape varieties are grown on all the plots. Of the 95 hectares that make up the property, 36 hectares are reserved to produce Château des Laurets, a blend that is primarily Merlot complemented by Cabernet Franc. Another four hectares were chosen from the best Merlot plots to produce a wine that epitomizes the property. Ever since his purchase of Château des Laurets, Benjamin de Rothschild wished to reveal the quintessence of this estate by making a special cuvée, and so, Château des Laurets Baron was created. This wine remained a family secret until 2015, when it was revealed for the very first time.
