Born out of Benjamin de Rothschild’s desire to create a leading Sauvignon Blanc, the Rimapere estate in Marlborough, New Zealand was chosen for its exceptional terroir and climate. The name of the property was a deliberate choice: it means “five arrows” in Maori and simultaneously honours the Rothschild family’s emblem and traditional New Zealand culture.

Anne Escalle was born in the Rhône Valley to wine & food enthusiast parents. From a young age, her best memories have always been linked with fine wine and fine food. Her classic scientific studies helped her to join reason with passion with a Master in Viticulture & Winemaking at the ENITA de Bordeaux. After a quick detour on a banana plantation in Cameroon, she came back to her passion for wine and settled in Languedoc Roussillon for 10 years, as a viticulturist consultant. She learned a lot with hundreds of vineyards & wineries over such a diversity of varieties and terroirs. In 2007, she moved with her young family to New Zealand, where they all fell in love with the kiwi way of life and the beautiful terroir of Marlborough. She has been the viticulturist of a very challenging single estate vineyard, covering 600 ha in high density for 12 years. Today, she combines 25 years of experience and her two wine cultures at Rimapere. She is also the very proud mum of 2 boys and enjoys cooking with her husband and a glass of wine.
About the Winery
Rimapere enjoys an incredible terroir. The vineyard comprises 24 hectares of vines that are ideally situated on the prestigious Rapaura site, known as the ‘Golden Triangle’, where the alluvial soil comprises mainly pebbles and gravel. Sauvignon Blanc is grown on 20 hectares and 4 hectares are kept aside for the cultivation of Pinot Noir. The vineyard is sustainably farmed, with an average age of around 15 years. This area’s cool climate is perfect for ripening high quality Sauvignon Blanc grapes and providing them with their typical lemon and grapefruit flavours, together with crisp acidity.
